SARAH PARADIS NAMED A TYLENOL® FUTURE CARE SCHOLAR

from Frenchville,
Maine, has been
named a 2013 TYLENOL® Future Care Scholar. Sarah is one of just 40 students from across the United States to win the TYLENOL® Scholarship. The makers of TYLENOL® award a total of $250,000 in scholarships to students pursuing degrees in healthcare, annually, to students who have chosen to pursue a career that’s all about taking care of others.
In addition to her academic pursuits,
Sara is a midfielder on the UMFK Women’s soccer team, and was named an Academic All-American by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association during her first two years on the team. She is a graduate of Wisdom High School in St. Agatha, Maine, where she excelled at soccer, winning the coaches award, top female scholar-athlete honors, and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player.
HARRIS COMPETES IN MISS MAINE USA 2014 PAGEANT
UMFK Junior nursing student, Brooke Lindsay Harris, was selected to participate in
the Miss Maine
USA pageant, which was held at the Portland Marriott at Sable Oaks, November 30 to December 1. Each contestant in the pageant was judged in swimsuit, evening gown, and personal interview categories. Brooke placed in the top 10 among the contestants.
When not tending to her nursing stud- ies, Brooke is a defender on UMFK’s USCAA National Champion women’s soccer team, and previously played guard on the Lady Bengals basketball team. Brooke hails from Lee, Maine, and is the daughter of Randy and Patricia Harris.
Brooke thoroughly enjoyed the experience of competing in the Miss Maine pageant and plans to compete again. Anyone interested

graduated from
Walden University
(Minneapolis, MN) with a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration with a concentra- tion in Health Services. The title of Tanya’s doctoral dissertation was “Insuring the Uninsured in Maine: Experiences with the Part-Time Worker Coverage Voucher Program in the Direct Care Workforce” — a qualitative case study exploring reasons why direct care workers chose not to participate in a volun- tary, subsidized, health insurance program in Maine. It is aimed at insuring the part-time/ seasonal workforce who were uninsured.
Tanya is a graduate of UMFK’s Nursing program. She later earned a master’s degree in business from Husson University in 2000, and a master’s degree in nursing from St. Louis University in 2004. Tanya has been a member of the UMFK Nursing faculty since 2008.

CHANCELLOR PAGE SPEAKS AT CHAMBER ANNUAL DINNER
University of Maine System Chancellor James H. Page was the guest speaker at the Greater Fort Kent Area Chamber of Commerce’s 66th Annual Dinner, held at the UMFK Sports Center. The Chancellor’s address was some- thing of a homecoming for the UMFK Class of 1975 alumnus. Dr. Page’s address to the Chamber members and guests, focused on the long-term financial status of the university system, and about the value of the strong ties between UMFK and the St. John Valley communities that it serves.
