May 9, 2001 (Sharon)

1. Ebsco visit on Wednesday, May 30 - There will be no staff meeting on this Wednesday due to the visit of Leslie Knapp and Sue Wolfman from Ebsco. They are having lunch in Presque Isle, so their visit won't be too lengthy here.

2. Revisit issue of discarding old Library Journal magazines - Sofia requested information about back issues of Library Journal. We confirmed that LJ and Choice are both only kept for 3 years. Stephanie reminded us that earlier articles could be obtained through ILL. We agreed that we would continue holding only last 3 years of both titles.

3. Notes in patron records - This item was intended to reinforce staff to remember to put notes in patron records for the information of other staff members. Two of the things that might generate a need for a note included students coming to check out materials without a card and students contesting a late fee or an overdue book.

4. Video/New Book Lists - Leslie announced that she and Anne had generated new featured lists for videos and the new books. She told us that over 1000 books had been cataloged since February. (The actual count on the list is 1201.)

5. Faculty handbook deadline - This project has been postponed and has been deleted from the calendar.

6. GuiCat - Sharon reported that she had downloaded the GuiCat upgrade and can install it on all machines from the zip disk.

7. Other

A. Videos - It was reported that a video seemed to have disappeared. Stephanie said she would check to see if it was misshelved in the cabinet. (She found it.)

B. Work study students for summer - Concern was expressed about who would be working for the library in the summer. We agreed that Leslie would hire and evaluate for the summer. She would also investigate who was available to work and how much financial aid would be awarded.

C. Old Xerox - It was reported that the Xerox has been down for some time, and the Xerox representative has not returned to fix it. Sharon is to call. This item led to further conversations regarding color printing and disappearance of library properties.

D. Color printing - Staff are spending increasingly longer periods of time assisting students with the printing and copying of their capstone projects in various classes. It was suggested that we equip a computer, perhaps the Assistive Learning Station, with the software necessary to do the printing and have the students do their own printing.

E. Disappearance of library property. Staff continues to be puzzled with the disappearance (and reappearance) of staplers. Stephanie reported that a patron went into the back room without permission to use a stapler when she offered a paper clip instead. Sharon asked everyone to put their staplers in their desk drawers instead of their desktop. Stephanie will ask Pete Cyr about lockdown equipment for the stapler. (Stephanie determined that she will need to ask Camille to drill a hole in a stapler. Sharon will investigate a vending machine. Diane Nadeau-Saucier suggested that we buy one at Sam's Club.)

F. Announcements - Stephanie reminded us that she now has to go to her doctor's every 2 weeks. Sharon reminded us that she will be leaving May 21 for a Faculty Institute in Augusta and MP2 training in Bangor.

8. Nicki has next week's agenda

May 16, 2001 (Nicki)

1. Fines for Reserves - This issue will be put off until right before the start of the Fall semester. If it is decided that fines for 2 hour in house reserves will not be charged, Marilyn needs to make the change in the system.

2. Jeff Dixon (Moncton)- He called Sharon about buying old books. Sharon asked Anne to generate a list of all titles in storage. Some may be of interest to Jeff Dixon to purchase at a minimal price. The books in storage are in Powell Hall, Acadia House, and at the old fire station on Main Street. There have only been two requests in two years for any of these books. Some could be sold.

3. Xerox Copier - Sharon will call Xerox about our dissatisfaction with the local Xerox service. Nicki's attempts to reach the local service technician have failed.

4. Summer Schedule - Wednesday night & weekend hours? Some education students have requested that the library (or the 24 hour room?) be open on another night besides Wednesday since they have class on Wednesday night. We will keep track of requests and complaints for the next few days and may adjust the hours accordingly.

5. Closing during summer - rotating schedule? For now, Debra will close Monday - Thursday nights (with some training). The Sunday person will close on that previous Friday.

6. Who works this Sunday?- The Sunday schedule will be as follows:

7. 24 hour room for summer? - Sharon will ask Dick Bouchard if there is a night watchman during the summer. We will look into whether or not the 24 hour room should be open at all during the six week session.

8. OMS and Cyr Hall Lab summer schedules - The Cyr Hall Lab is closed for the summer. The OMS Computer Lab hours for the summer are as follows:

Sofia has the next agenda.
