2. During the Spring session Sofia will be working Monday and Thursday 7:30AM to 4:30PM.
3. Sofia is going to try 12PM to 9PM for her Wednesday nights. As we get closer to school starting back we will investigate a time for staff meetings. Sharon thinks Mondays might be a good time.
4. Christmas decorations need to go away and we'll need to find a home for them.
5. Georgine informed the group that serials for 1994 have been moved to the basement. Also that many of the boxes are labeled wrong and we need to investigate a better method for labeling. Sharon would like no label versus an incorrect label.
6. Sofia raised a concern about some missing issues. After a brief discussion, the group decided they will alert Georgine of missing issues, then a decision will be made as to if we should buy replacements. Georgine reminded us to check online for the availability of the journal electronically.
7. We need to follow-up on the chance of getting a workstudy to keep the library open for Thursday's workshop. We'll need to post a sign if we will be closed.
8. Sharon followed-up with the community patron fines list. She is going to investigate further before she takes any steps.
9. Sharon is going to follow-up with Camille on the new shelving this will allow us to plan appropriately.
10. Sharon is working on the Exhibit Area Policy and all other policies that refer to "The Library Bill of Rights". Currently, we may not be promoting what we had really intended.
11. We talked briefly of the building/moving plans.
Next Agenda is Stephanie's (correction by Sofia - Georgine has the next agenda)
January 9, 2002 (Georgine)
1. Novel Accounts: Nicki made two forms for accounts. Red for students and green for guest. A stack of forms and Unet forms were sent to Scott to pass out to students.
2. Foyer lights : Foyer lights stay on
3. Handicapped door: Handicapped door does not latch well in winter. Need to pull very hard and re check. We also need to alert Peter and Arthur. Sharon will call Dick about maintenance.
4. Posters: Discussed who takes the posters down, and what our rights are on what will be placed in the library. We really didn't come up with the answer about posters, but had a great time dreaming about a coffee shop. Georgine will speak to Hubert about coming out of retirement!
5. Picking up mail: Will try to get work studies, for each day, to pick up the mail.
6. Other: Freebees are now on the shelves by the couch. Brochures, flyers, etc. will remain where they are.
7. Other: Nicki will purchase a new tape measure.
8. Other: Sharon. Nicki, Don, Peter, and Arthur now have pagers. Now they can be found for problems. We're happy abut that, but don't know about them!
9. Other: Stephanie has made a first-rate brochure with library and staff information for the students to take home with them.
10. Other: Leslie mentioned that Dave Hobbins was organizing a group for a little Comedy at the Caribou Motor Inn. This started a conversation on our own acting abilities and the comedians amongst us. We decided we should be in the next parade and show our talents. Everyone has ideas, from impersonating computers to (classic) librarians. We even would have a bowling ball for a prize. This came up when Nicki brought up the latest Chip event, which is bowling. We had a really interesting meeting!!
11. Other: Library will be closed Jan 21 Martin Luther King Day all day, but will be open from 5:00 to 9:00.
Next meeting- Sharon
January 16, 2002 (Sharon)
1. Shelf label holders: The sample shelf label holder arrived and is not appropriate for our use.
2. Serial boxes: Sofia was to check if these boxes would be good for government documents.
3. Barrels in serials room: Sharon will discuss the problem with facilities personnel.
4. Glass in serials room: We believe the glass breakage happened with the retrofit of the lights. We will report these incidences at once.
5. Paper credit according to # of classes: We discussed a student's question as to whether credit for printing should depend on the number of courses a student was taking. We decided that considering this action would be unmanageable.
6. Lights, copier: Sharon reported that twice the bathroom light had been left on and once the copier had been left on when the library was closed at 4:30 PM.
7. Conceptual plan: Sharon asked that the staff discuss the library conceptual plan at each staff meeting. The brainstorming session will be reported separately.
8. Special Collections table: The only suggestion was that we cut it in half and use it for the library computers up and downstairs.
9. Bathroom temperature: Since few of us wear snowsuits to work, we felt something should be done about the heat in the bathroom.
10. Vacuum cleaner: We still wish to investigate purchasing a small vacuum cleaner for cleaning the bookshelves. Nicki will get the name of the vacuum cleaner at Sears.
11. Millennium images: Stephanie reported that of the 5 images she had put in student records, 3 were gone (all female) and 2 remained (all male). Sharon will inform Marilyn.
12. Student patron records: Student records are correct in ISIS but Ursus still retains 999 Powell Hall.
13. Label printing: Leslie and Sharon will try to default MilSerials for no label printing.
14. No ID card: Stephanie reminds us to put the note in the record of those who do not have their id card.
January 23, 2002 (Stephanie)
Follow up items:
1. Handicapped door closing properly: (did Mel drop by?) Issue taken care of by Mel.
2. Bathroom Temp: (seems to be warmer) Resolved by closing the window :-)
3. Vacuum for stacks: Nicki will look into this
4. Trash barrels in periodical room : Sharon spoke to Terry and the issue should be resolved shortly, especially after Terry is able to clean up the basement and regain that storage space.
5. Terry's message board: Nicki will ask Terry where he prefers to have it posted.
6. Serial Boxes: Georgine can discard them, Sofia is not taking any.
7. Shelf Label Holders: The more expensive variety is preferred and will be purchased. Leslie will get the order info. to Nicki.
8. When will the shelving be in?: Nicki will try to find out :-)
New Items:
1. Connector building: Architects with library design experience have been submitted to Sharon to present to the building committee. One architect from Maine has already declined: too far and too short noticed. February 1st is the deadline for interested architects to inform UMFK of their interest in the project.
2. Wall Street Journal (Eastern Edition): Georgine will look into getting the Eastern Edition from Ebsco
3. New students not getting info. for Novell, email, etc.: We discussed ways to help inform new students about information services: a checklist, an card with usernames and passwords, becoming part of orientation, doing an information services session in Comp.I and Curr Instruction, and having a webpage for new students. Nicki will ask Scott Voisine about orientation and Leslie will talk to Chuck Closser and Bruno Hicks for classroom instruction.
4. Chancellor's Search: Sharon encourages us all to attend the ITV and Video Conference sessions, but we need to make certain that library staff are not all gone at the same time. See the Netcalendar for who will be gone at what times. (I'm counting on each individual to put their info into the calendar themselves).
OTHERS:
1. Sharon has a new faculty orientation and needs information from us by Monday January 28th. What do we feel the faculty need to know about our areas of expertise?
2. Printer in the computer lab is out of order. All but 4 machines in that room have the MADFAC printer loaded on them.
3. Cash Register needs to be more orderly therefore: Checks and Receipts will go under the change compartment and bills (from left to right) will go from highest to lowest dollar amount. Please try to put all the bills in the same order and pattern as all the other bills.
4. Keys...have been found.
5. Toilet Paper in Men's room is being stolen. Sharon has emailed Dick Bouchard.
NEXT AGENDA: NICKI (please put items 1,2,3 of the new business on the next agenda)
January 30, 2002 (Nicki)
1. Wall Street Journal (Eastern Edition) - Georgine discovered that the only real difference between the several versions of the Wall Street Journal is that the advertising is localized to each version. We will get one copy of the Eastern Edition to see the difference for ourselves.
2. Info Services as part of Orientation - we will follow up on this later. Sharon spoke to Carol Hawkins and Susan Hillman, and they both agreed that a visit to their classes would be a good idea.
3. Vacuum Cleaner for Stacks - We will purchase the Shark from Sears for about $40.00.
4. Items for Marilyn - Sharon recommended that every one prioritize their lists of items for Marilyn to address and submit it to Sharon by next Monday. Stephanie stated that she has quite a few items and Anne has some as well. Georgine thought most of her issues with MilCirc have been solved.
5. Terry's Message board has been put up in his closet. He thought it was a good idea as well.
6. Savin Copier coin-op being unplugged - if the copier doesn't work, check the coin-op, it may be unplugged. When facilities vacuums in the morning, sometimes they use that plug and don't plug the coin-op back in. The next time it happens, please write it on Terry's message board (whoever finds it).
7. Pcounter Refunds - this will be revisited because we need to find a way to put notes in the students Pcounter record.
8. Connector Building - Sharon is on the committee and she will recommend that the offices downstairs be on only one side of the hall. The wall on the opposite side should be windows facing the quad.
9. Library Bengal TV - Some people change the channel when it is not supposed to be changed. Nicki will check with Don Ouellette to see if the tv can be programmed so that channel can't be changed.
Other - Stephanie has hired two new workstudy students. Tanya Jandreau and Eva Castor are starting this week.
Georgine reported that the Sun Journal will continue to come even though it had been cancelled. We will get it until 2004 because of Y2K problems.
The summer session was discussed. Stephanie has been asked by some students what our summer hours will be. Leslie will ask the Registrar's office what the summer schedule will look like.
Nicki reported that we should all be aware of a new student who has a criminal record, and a bad temper. (I'll fill you in in person if you missed this one).
