2. Sharon reported on the Library Directors Meeting. There will be new trials for E-Reference. The money that has been budgeted for it needs to be spent by January 2003. Leslie and Sofia expressed frustrations with the choices and with the process, but will continue to actively participate since the money will be spent anyway.
Laura Galluci was introduced at the meeting as the URSUS Library System Manger. Sharon stated that questions regarding indexes and databases should be directed to Tim Pellet.
At the Directors Meeting, Elaine Albright reported on the system budget. She was asked to give real estimates for FY04 and FY05. The current budget is $255,000.00. She estimated that $1,417,000.00 will be needed in FY04 and that $1,191,000.00 will be needed in FY05. These larger estimates include expenses that aren't in the current budget (ex. Courier Service, databases and equipment upgrades).
The Courier service was also discussed. Proposals for changes are being looked at. Our staff agrees that using the service has saved quite a bit in shipping and postage charges.
3. Distance Education - Sharon reported that UMFK ITV is broadcasting six classes in Spring 2003. That is a big load for so few staff.
4. Moving and shifting will not happen this summer because of the asbestos abatement. The money for the abatement will only be available in the next bienium. It will cost between $40, 000 and $60,000.
5. Stephanie reported that she will continue her schedule of 13 hours on Tuesday and 5 on Wednesday for the rest of this semester. Stephanie and Sofia will look at their schedules for next semester.
6. Stephanie also reported that the workstudy positions are full and that she is pleased with this year's group. Sofia reported that their pictures will all be posted soon.
7. We discussed vacation time. Sofia will take a vacation either in January (before classes start) or during the March break. Sharon will be around December 21 for a wedding. Nicki will probably be out on January 21, 22 and 23.
CORRECTIONS (added 10/01/2002 by Sharon Johnson) A couple of corrections to the minutes. The $40,000-$60,000 amount was for hiring consultants to move the collection at the time of abatement. The amount we are asking from the system is more like $250,000. This includes abatement, an elevator, and closing the old entrance and doing the circulation and reference areas in the 1988 addition.
I won't be around on Dec. 21. I will be in Texas for that wedding. smj
