2. Microtechnition starts July 6th
3. Audio books on CD's and cassettes: the audio books on cassette will continue to have the stamp(?) "Audio" whereas audio books on CD will have "Audio CD." In addition they will be shelved accordingly. Audio CD will come after Audio (the cassettes).
4. Clarification of electronic equipment for checkout: The digital camera currently has a two hour check out status. Students can check this and other equipment out for use in the library. However any use outside the library must be preapproved. The student should either have the professor contact us, or produce a letter from the professor stating who, when, and for what class the item is to be used. In addition, faculty and staff may check out the equipment for one day. Under special circumstances we can allow up to three days. (as a side reminder added after the meeting - all checkouts, whether they were reserved or not, need to be put into the folder which is located on top of the circulation desk.)
5. SCSI cord for scanner: Leslie will work with Nicki to get a cable for the slide scanner so Neal can keep his by his desk.
6. CD's in books: It was decided that CD's accompanying new books would be looked at on a case by case bases for cataloging separately from the book. This was a result of a disk getting damaged while in the back of a book and the book was returned in the book drop. In addition the cabinet the disks will be stored is the one that holds reference and gov doc disks as well. Cabinet will be labeled properly and placed on new reference desk.
7. Kpam and krec: Sofia will sort the big lists to see if there are any kpam or krec left. once this is done, the two locations will be eliminated. In addition a new location will be created called kfile to allow for gov docs, stacks, and reference files. a label would look like this:
for stacks: File AB103 .E34 1999
for gov docs: File Gov.Doc. A 72.1:Sa 128/1999
for reference: File Ref AB103 .E34 1999
This way we know where it is located (in the file cabinet) then where in the file cabinet. We will need to rapid update the gov docs and relabel or fix existing labels on the files.
II. The staff decided that July 1st would be an ideal date for the implementation of the review file reallocation requests that Laura has been working on. This means that we need to empty all review files before the implementation date.
III. Sharon shared information from the Library Director’s meeting that she attended on Friday, June 12, 2004. She mentioned that Susan Lowe was the recipient of a very special award. See the following statement:
“Susan S. Lowe, assistant dean for off-campus library services, University of Maine System, has been named the 2004 recipient of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Distance Learning Section (DLS) Haworth Press Distance Learning Librarian Conference Sponsorship Award. This first-time annual award honors an ACRL member working in the field of, or contributing to the success of, distance learning librarianship or related library service in higher education.”
1. Staff discussed the IUG enhancements. Sofia will email the public services vote to Leslie who will add the technical services vote. Then Leslie will email to Sharon who will report to Laura.
The group questioned access to “My Millennium”.
2. Sofia and Leslie shared an early conversation with the group about adding subject headings to the juvenile collection. Sofia asked if it would be possible to “flag” the multicultural books, similar to what many public libraries do by placing sticker on the spine. The group agreed this would be a good idea. Steph, Nicki and Sofia were volunteered to create the label.
There was a discussion of the definition of multiculturalism. What books should get the label? The group finally agreed that any book dealing with a culture, any culture should get the label.
Leslie will ask Jamie to help on the project. Jamie will be asked to pull one shelf at a time, check URSUS for subject headings and divide the books by ones without subject headings, books she would consider multicultural and those which appear o.k. At the same time books dealing with holidays will be grouped together and if noticed, books by the same author or series will be pulled to assure they are located together on the shelf.
Books without subject headings will be assigned headings by Sharon and Leslie, Anne will update in the computer. Multicultural books will be checked and then Jamie can put the label on. Titles which need to be relocated will be assigned to call numbers and relabeled.
3. Sharon reminded everyone that Switch Board needs a copy of P.O.’s which have large shipments associated with them to assure they get delivered to the right location.
4. Sofia shared her hunt for a new book drop. Beaucoup money! She suggested maybe that Mel could make something with a cart and maybe it would be cheaper. Sharon mentioned that Physical Plant may repaint the book drop. Anne suggested a basket be placed in the book drop to make it easier to remove items. Maybe the shelf could be moved up in the current book drop.
Sofia is going to check to see if the shelf can be moved up and report to Sharon. We also may try a mail bin for the inside basket.
5. Sharon reported on the architects meeting. There was a discussion of the doors, lights, mist, and shelving. Date moved to August 1 for completion date.
6. Other – Tony Gauvin will be teaching computer forensics in Don Ouellette’s office and Don will move to Arthur’s Office.
Sofia will be out tomorrow, Friday, June 25th.
Sharon will be out Mon., Tues. and Wednesday next week. (June 28, 29, and 30)
Anne reported that the over-sized video project was done except for maybe any items which were checked-out.
