February 2005 Meeting Minutes

February 28, 2004 (Stephanie)

1. PeopleSoft holds for library fines: Sharon reported that the group she met with to discuss this issue determined that a hold would be placed on student accounts when the cumulative amount of ALL campus charges is equal to a minimum of $100. The library has been asked to forgo any additions to the holds currently in ISIS. Leslie will talk to Don Raymond and ask if we can return to adding ISIS holds through until the end of fall registration. There is an ongoing discussion about who and how charges will be placed on student accounts while we wait for PeopleSoft to be fully functionally with a student module. (between the time we stop using ISIS and the time PeopleSoft is ready)

2. Tape/Cash register: Nicki gave a brief demonstration on how to replace the receipt/journal roll. Individual demos are available upon request. In brief, the following are the steps to replace the rolls. The manual (located underneath the cash register offers more detail).

  1. Turn the control key to the REG position using the control key.
  2. Remove the printer cover using the printer cover key.
  3. Get a new roll of paper (located in the metal cabinet where the mailbox is). Cut a straight edge on the roll of paper.
  4. Put the paper roll on the outer side of the two roll holder (for the Journal Roll use the inner side of the two holders).
  5. Insert the paper into the slot. Feed the paper by hand until it is fully inside the slot. Use the RF or JF key to feed the paper the rest of the way through.
  6. Replace the printer cover and cut off any excess paper.

3. Dick Bouchard reported that the Blake Library and Powell Hall/Archives building alarm system will be tied in together.

4. Motion Sensor Lighting System: Dick Bouchard reported that physical plant is considering a motion sensor lighting system to help address the lack of appropriate lighting for staff members that work late hours.

5. Lights off at closing: Neal has asked that we close all the lights off at the end of the library’s public hours. This includes the upstairs lights and the short hallway light where the handicap exit is located.

6. Powell Hall/Archives Doors: Do not unlock the doors in that threshold, but DO open them. For fire safety reasons, the doors need to remain locked. The alarm system will automatically close the doors in case of a fire.

7. Drop Box Fix: Stephanie will find/create a “beware of” or “do not put hands” sign for the drop box. Nicki will bring in a piece of felt that we will try to use on the bottom of the flap. Hopefully it will prevent further injuries by covering up the sharp edge.

8. Paradis Project: Sharon reported that the Roger Paradis taping project has begun.

9. Toner Cartridges: Please make an effort to report to Nicki when you take the cartridge BEFORE the last one. This helps ensure that we always have cartridges on hand.

10. Security Gate: Sofia reported that a library asked, through MeLibs, if any library might have a security gate that they could have. They were not concerned with whether or not the system actually worked. Sofia is going to follow-up with the requesting library.

11. Microfilm Machine: since the machine makes such poor copies, the bypass key has been placed on reserve. A short discussion ensued about whether or not it would be possible to share a microfilm machine if/when archives gets one.

12. Polycom Meeting: this will be a discussion about how the libraries at UMPI, UMM and UMFK might be able to cooperate.
