2. Powell Hall Entrances - It has been decided that Arthur will continue to lock the entrance facing Nowland Hall and any faculty member who teaches in Powell Hall in the evening will be given a key and an allen wrench to open the door just for their class.
The doors to the Powell Hall classroom now have locks on them so the ibooks won’t be left out in the open.
3. Nursing Video’s - All Library staff and workstudy students should know where the Nursing videos are. The problem may come in when a student is by themselves and they may not know who all of the faculty and adjunct faculty are. They should be asked to come in with their id’s so the students will know who they are.
Leslie has asked to be on the next agenda for the Nursing Division to discuss the Nursing videos and the E-Portfolios. Nicki will check with Don Ouellette to see if AV has any headphones for students to use with the tv and vcr’s upstairs in the library.
4. Library Hours - Some workstudy students have asked to put in some hours during the week between Christmas and New Year’s. We agreed that if we have work for them, they can come in as long as they don’t run out of funds at the end of the semester.
Devan has reported that Saturday afternoons have been very busy and he is having trouble getting people to leave at 4:00. Sofia will get reports from the People Counter for Saturday’s and Sunday throughout the semester. Sharon asked if we should consider having staff work on Saturday and Sunday like we used to. The staff disagreed, so the weekend hours will stay as is for now.
Sofia has been monitoring the workstudy hours closely, and we may be short a couple of students come the Spring because of other jobs, transfer, etc.
5. Computer to fix floppies - The Library staff would like to be able to fix floppies in the Library because they are getting a lot of requests from students. Nicki will ask Art to hold on to an old tower computer to put in the library office for this purpose. We may move the HP Color Printer into the library computer lab so the students will have one color and one black and white printer. Then we can use the table in the office for the old tower to fix floppies and a spare station for workstudies - with a kvm switch.
Sofia will email Romeo about putting Word and Wordperfect suites back on the Main Menu on the student labs. Leslie also asked to have the Student Server Profile on FTP. The library staff should take a look at the image before machines are ghosted because they get most of the questions from students and they see the problems. We need to mention to IT that the problem of the Dells in the Library booting slowly needs to be looked into.
Deb will make a list of computer and program “do’s and don’ts” for students to reference in the labs.
6. Stand up Pcounter Station - Nicki will order the stand up station from Levesque’s - $145.00. Sharon will talk to Dick Bouchard about getting two signs - one for the staff room and one for the Pcounter station. Nicki looked at office supply catalogs for similar signs and there are none. They need to be custom made, probably at Trophy Showcase. Sharon will ask Art to show her how to fix the Pcounter station without rebooting it.
7. Holiday Card - The picture is taken, Sofia will design a card.
8. Holiday Workstudy Treats - We will bring treats next week - December 12 - 16.
Monday - Anne & Sharon
Tuesday - Leslie
Wednesday - Deb
Thursday - Sofia
Friday - Nicki
Asita will pick a day later.
9. Melmac Grant - Scott Voisine has applied for a 5 year grant of $250,000.00. About $26,000.00 of the grant will be set aside for a Teaching and Learning Library. We need to decide if the materials will be integrated into the collection, or in their own space. Some of it may be electronic.
10. DVD’s in book drop - DVD’s and videos that are put in the boo drop are getting damaged. We decided no to fine people for putting them in the book drop. We will look into CD/DVD skins and cleaning machines.
December 19
1. Revisit cd cleaning machine - we really could use one. Nicki did some research and found what seems to be a good one for about $500.00. Sharon gave the go ahead to order it through the Library account.
2. Saturday hours 1-5 - The library is still quite busy on Saturday’s, but only after 1:00 and is still busy at 4:00. We will try opening from 1-5 instead of 12-4. We will try to remember to post signs before the busy periods a the end of each semester telling Community users that they will be denied access until it is less busy. We will also check with Arthur to see if there is a way to monitor how many people log in to the Library computers during a given time. That will help us figure out how busy certain times really are.
3. Zubrick's camcorder - Joe Zubrick will be bringing a camcorder to the library that will be put on reserve only for his Speech students.
4. Video checkout - don't extend - Sofia wanted to remind us about not letting anyone check out videos for a longer period just because of the break. We also need to remind patrons that they cannot renew videos and that the fines will accumulate if they are late.
5. Checking out serials at circ desk - The system of checking out serials to faculty and staff is not working well. The slips are not being filled out correctly and are not being followed up on. We decided that the check out of these materials should be done through serials. Asita will work out a procedure to do so and will let everyone else know how it works.
6. Monday January 16 hours - We will only be open until 4:30. This is the Martin Luther King Jr Holiday, but it is also Spring Orientation. Anne, Nicki and Deb will work and will take another day off. Asita will take that day off and will be here on Friday when Anne and Deb may take off.
7. Friday January 6 - Sofia will be attending the Reference/Circ Heads meeting. There will also be several groups of high school students coming in to the Library on that day for 25 minute tours. Leslie will give the tours.
8. Scott Brickman - Sharon reported that Scott B was disappointed to see the tables and chairs in the Powell Hall “lobby”. He and Paul Gebhardt were hoping to maybe use that space for a gallery. Sharon reminded him how insecure the area was and that items could easily be stolen. Scott also mentioned his “dream” to turn the OMS into the Arts and Humanities Building to house the music lab, art room and art gallery.
9. Staff Room - Dick Bouchard told Sharon that Lisa O has agreed to move into their new rooms in the Archives Building by September 2006. In the meantime, the heating and humidity will be tested and regulated.
10. Mobile ibook cart - Sharon would like to find room in the Library for the ibook cart if it is not going to be used during the spring semester. We didn’t decide on anything definite.
11. Color Printer - The color printer is ready to be moved to the lab - we will need facilities staff to do this. IT will have to install the driver on all computers.
