March 2008 Meeting Minutes
March 13, 2009 (Deb)
- Reconfiguration of library space – Leslie reported interior upgrades to the library might be on the fast track as part of the campus effort to enhance existing facilities. This means a hard look at the library’s collection and some intensive weeding. The goal is to consolidate the collection and create open space in the down stairs portion of the library. Everyone is encouraged to think about design elements and layout they would like to incorporate and feel free to make suggestions.
- Powell Hall renovations – Construction is scheduled to begin on May 11 and run through the summer until Aug. 17. Faculty currently using Powell Hall need to find temporary summer office space and Leslie has offered the library to help out. The total number of offices needed is unknown at this time but we will do what we can to accommodate. Possible temporary office locations include the staff room, Daigle conference room, TV room, and quiet study.
- Overdrive – Overdrive is now up and running. Sofia will look into purchasing an mp3 player and receiver available for lending. Leslie suggested we investigate purchasing (when monies become available) a Kindle and other technologies to have on hand for patrons to experience.
- Talking points – Sofia supplied seven “talking points” – concise descriptions for admissions selling points relating to the library – for discussion. Five points were agreed up. They include:
- Blake Library provides friendly, courteous assistance for all our user’s needs.
- Blake Library has many resources, both electronic and print, to further our user’s research.
- Blake Library offers quick and easy access to resources across the state and beyond.
- Blake Library is rich in services, resources and atmosphere.
- Blake Library offers excellent training and support in library and IT services.
- Helpdesk – Leslie talked about the future possibility of the library staff providing helpdesk assistance system wide. One option includes each campus being responsible for covering the desk on a specified evening. Help would be specific to certain functions such as Blackboard, MainStreet or email.
- Paintings – Leslie said the library was under no obligation to keep or use recently donated paintings. For the time being they will be put in the server room. Once projected renovations have been made, the paintings can be reviewed again.
- Sunday work – Due to the change in Brenda’s working hours, the Sunday work schedule shifted to fill her time. Changes have been made in the library calendar accordingly.
- Turn table – The elimination of the library’s record collection is nearly complete. The turn table will be offered to the Archives.
- Campus developments – The current budgetary constraints are presenting many challenges. Leslie will keep us informed regarding any new campus developments and how it will affect this department as the news becomes available. Everyone was encouraged to submit any suggestions to Leslie who will then pass them along.
- Microfilm - In addition, the elimination of microfilm was briefly discussed. Brenda and/or Katie will run a list of microfilm to see what we might discard (what might be online as well) (added by Sofia)
