October 2008 Meeting Minutes

October 24, 2008 (Asita)
(Library staff in attendance- Brenda, Sofia, Deb, Asita, Katie, and Leslie)

Make sure staff and work-study students know how to properly shut down the two URSUS station computers. To properly shut down the two URSUS station computers, press and hold down Ctrl, alt, and backspace; then select shut down.

Sat/Sun hours - brought up the possibility in the future of staff coming in Saturday and Sunday (4 hours each day). Right now enrollment is down, so while it won't happen now, staff could possible work on Sat/Sun in the future.

Sofia told us that Arthur from IT had to spend 3 hours to fix the H drive crash this week. He found there were some students that have massive amounts of MP3s on their H drives. One student's account has been disabled because of this (which Sofia e-mailed us about).

Census Reference Questions: If you answer a census question, Sofia asks that we fill out the form that is taped onto the scanner on the Reference desk. Any question that is specifically about the census or a question that leads to the census qualifies.

Library accounts: If a person wants to set up a library account, and they do not have proof of residency/address (bill, license, etc.), we will only check one item out to them until proof is provided. Once they have shown us proof of residency/address they can check out up to 10 items. If a patron doesn't have a card, and you look them up by name, if their address information is not in the patron record, and they've already checked out an item, we can't check out more until proof of residency/address is provided.

Sofia contacted Bruno, Priscilla and Diana White to get information about testing (Praxis/Hesi). She also contacted Louise Pelletier. November 14 (Friday), the library will be open later because of a Praxis test on Nov. 15. We discussed putting a sign on the bulletin board to let students know we'll be open late on Friday.

Scanner in the lab is dead, it was the first scanner the library had. Sofia would prefer that the scanner in the Reference area wouldn't be moved, as there is a small scanner in the lab still. If another scanner would be needed in the lab, the scanner in the library office could be moved there.
