Discussed Gmail new move from Horde to Gmail. Students will log in as they would in Horde, but will be going to gmail.maine.edu. The links on the campus web site now go to gmail. Students will still activate their email as they always did. Web site to see questions on gmail is: http://mail.maine.edu/google/faq.html. Also, students may start using googledocs. Other apps to be used will be google web site/portfolio.
Computing the campus will be moving to Windows 7 next summer. We will not switch to Vista. IT will be upgrading computers to 4 gig memory.
New computers in lab the computers in the lab have only USB ports and CD/DVD burning capabilities. Roxio will be installed on all the computers to help with burning files to CD/DVD.
Powell progress completion date is still in January. Some offices might be able to move sooner from the library into Powell depending on progress.
Polycom in viewing room Currently the polycom system from Cyr Hall has been moved to the viewing room (across from the computer labs). This is temporary until space is available in Powell Hall.
Courier the new courier service is sporadic for the moment. We expect a schedule to solidify come the end of August. This is also when Maine Info net requesting will be turned back on. In the meantime, we are mailing through usps all requested books and holding onto returning books for a courier we hope will show up.
Xerox printer We expect the printer to move out of the office anywhere from the middle to the end of September.
MP3 players will not get any right now. The demand for downloadable audio books is very low. We have not had anyone come in asking about them.
Loan rule 29 we are currently experiencing problems with our items loan rule changing inexplicably to 29 from the loan rule it is supposed to use. We do not know why this is happening. We will troubleshoot harder and try to different things to see if we can get any consistency to the problem. For example, we will try different patron types.
Millennium update the Millennium program is going to be updated on Monday (August 24) and needs to have its JRE updated prior. Sofia will first update the JRE on her computer to make sure all runs smoothly, and then move to the other computers.
Brenda - will be back August 31 or maybe as early as August 28 to make the fac/staff development day.
Microfilm Katie will start the process of discarding the microfilm and moving dead titles from the serials room to the downstairs area. If we have enough room in the upstairs area of the serials room, we will attempt to move the microfilm cabinets in there to make space in the A/V room for the tv.
Displaying books Leslie would like us to think of other places or ways in the future to display new and even used books so they get more visibility and then hopefully more use. URSUS backend URSUS has a way in the back end to see what people are searching and if they had any luck finding it. However, we never know who the people are. This functionality is being looked into to see if the URSUS libraries can use it for collection development.
The Directors have charged the different URSUS groups - to discuss and look at the larger picture of how we can provide better or improved services now or in the future. The ILL and Circ group will be together.
Directors Retreat Leslie will follow up with emailing us information on the various aspects of the retreat.
Campus development day all need to attend.
Faculty rooms some faculty have different rooms now (see email recently sent to see the room changes).
Labs the music lab is now where the computer lab used to be in the Old Model School. Nursing has taken over what once was the music lab in Nadeau.
