Mirrors: discussed the possible necessity of one or more mirrors to help staff at reference desk to see who or if someone is in circ area. In the past, employees will be bent down to get videos or standing at the mail desk which is obscured by the wall divider, and even sometimes at the circ computer but standing back just enough to not see well. A mirror would help us identify more quickly if there is or isn't someone in the area, therefore address students needs faster, and address any safety issues.
It was suggested that we could do a better job if we used a camera. With a camera, we could monitor the area on our computer screens.
Circ counter when circ staff are away We decided that when Deb or work study students step away from the circulation area, to let Asita know. Asita will cover the circ area when no one is there. If Asita is gone, Sofia will cover. Asita also needs to be told when staff get back to the circ area. Sofia will continue considering a device that let's Asita know when reference staff is away as well.
Lockers: We want to put lockers in the library again. The previous hand me down lockers did not work well because they were too small for the materials students wanted to put in them. A different set of see through lockers will be considered that have larger capacity. We will probably ask Student Senate to help fund. Sofia will contact Student Sentate president to get feedback on possible number of lockers needed.
Facilities: We added some additional areas to target in the library for facilities to look into. Leslie has the updated list.
Campus signs: Some discussion on campus signs and navigating Powell. We still prefer a color coded method of directing trafic. Current sign in Powell (first floor) will come down when the art installation goes up.
Art installation: The art piece going up in Powell is now scheduled for July 25-27. There may be some access issues during the installation, but will know more closer to the time.
Fall Saturday hours We have agreed to extend Saturday hours in fall to 8pm. So the hours will now be from 10am to 8pm. There was discussion on coverage, and it was decided that work study students will continue to cover these hours. Deb will actively hire new students to specifically cover these hours, plus evening weekday hours, Sundays, and Thursday mornings.
In addition, work study students will need to fill out a people inventory every Saturday across the fall. We need to have hard data that shows the library is being used, and how much. Data we want collected is: How many people are in the library at half hour intervals, how many are continued patrons (still here since the previous count) versus new patrons, if library computers are being used versus library tables, and if student versus community patron.
Lab computers: six computers are coming out of the lab and will replace other library computers. The microfilm machine computer will not be replaced. Instead we will attempt to configure a lap top to work with the machine.
Windows without screens: it is ok to open windows without screens.
Server Room: No one is supposed to go into the server room anymore. Has to do with security. This also means that we (sofia) do not have to fret any more about computer cords running in front of the door.
Gmail: We had a long discussion about gmail and outlook and which we would be using.
