November 2015 Meeting Minutes

November 2, 2015 (Brenda)

  1. 3D PRINTER
  2. PIVOT- this is a database that Peter Nelson asked us to look into-it is for grant writing. Vendor gave us a very reasonable quote for our campus but there are not enough funds for this year. In May we could possibly request a trial period. We will consider for next fiscal year. Brenda will communicate this with vendor.
  3. STUDENTS STAYING PAST CLOSING TIME-work study students are having problems closing at 11. Some students are coming in to take tests or watch videos right before closing time. Work study students need to start walking around at 10:30 to remind people we are closing at 11. Need to have consistency with all work study students closing. Leslie will have library computers set to close at 11:05 (M-TH) and will see if FR-SU may be accommodated. We will put signage that states computers will shut off at closing time. If there is a particular student giving a hard time call Leslie and she will come down.
  4. SIGNAGE FOR QUIET ZONE-Sofia will get more easels to put up quiet zone signs again. There has been too much talking in the quiet zone. People have been complaining it is too noisy in the “quiet” zone.
  5. WEAPONS POLICY- We currently do not have a weapons policy that we can post. The only place there is something written about no weapons on campus is in the student handbook. Leslie is rewriting the policy and bringing it to VPAS for approval this week.
  6. VETERANS DAY - the library is open. Sofia and Asita are working-there is work study coverage. Leslie will come down around 3:45 so Asita can go to her appointment.
  7. NEW YORK TIMES CABINET- The row of cabinets does not look good as is in its new location. Possibility to post art work or posters on back side of cabinets or turn couch with the back against the cabinet, possibly plants on top of the cabinet. If this still doesn't look good, we can consider moving them somewhere else.
  8. DROP BOX-Jeff Plourde suggested we have a drop box on the inside with a slot from the outside. This would eliminate snow blowing issues in the winter, painting every year. Suggested new place would be the side door near Sofia’s desk or by the Entrance to Powell/Archives. Patrons (including handicap) would be able to drive close to the drop box.
  9. LIBRARY SPACE- Leslie will be looking into grants or monies available for a new library. Keep in mind space ideas of how we envision our library space to be used.
  10. PROCUREMENT UPDATE
  11. BOSTON GLOBE- received price increase from $612.60 to 901.08. Since we have online access we will not be renewing the print version.
  12. BINDING MATERIALS- put out the heat binder until all materials are used. Students will have to read how to use binder and do it themselves. We will have to decide if we want to purchase more materials and charge per folder.
  13. JOURNAL CHECKOUTS- discussed the current procedure of checking out journals(staff way versus work study way). It is much quicker and easier to do it the work study way. Leslie will stop by one evening to compare the two procedures.
  14. Return
