November 2016 Meeting Minutes

November 28, 2016 (Asita)

  1. Discussed guide for work study students dealing with various incidents/issues. Discussion moved around from students needing to use their own judgment to making sure we have students working certain spots that have good judgment. In addition, rather than a guide, we need to have frank discussion about how to handle situations. Don't list situations, but can give examples. Sofia will work with Deb to come up with 3 or 4 reliable students. If we can't get students to fill certain hours, Sofia or Leslie will fill in or we don't open. Same with if only a non-reliable student is available.
  2. Signage: Deb's students created signs about being more understanding of quiet. The signs went up on computers and more will go up around the library
  3. Treats for work study students For next week, Dec 5-9. Asita - Monday, Sofia - Tuesday, Leslie - Wednesday, Brenda & Deb - Thursday.
  4. Maine Compost Week is May 8 - 14, 2017. display in mid-April work w/Cooperative Extension Tony sent out an email, also Joyce Rumery (UM Orono?) asked if the library will put up a materials display on composting mid-April. Library will put up a display, and Leslie will let Tony know about it.
  5. NCLEX CD: UMFK purchased that CD & Streaming, we collectively own it, the library paid for it. We need it in the faculty’s hands to help students. Leslie chose not to catalog it, and asked Brenda to send over to nursing staff. However, nursing staff can’t keep track of it, so we may need to catalog it to facilitate tracking of the disc. We don’t need it here, it’s a faculty resource, and it’s their responsibility. Sofia says if anyone comes over and asks about this to tell them we don’t have it. Also follow up with Sandy re: Medicating children DVD library staff were unable to find on reserve.
  6. Tomorrow’s HR 1-4 meeting. Leslie will be there and taking notes. Doug is supposed to do focus groups on HR feedback. Leslie & Sofia heard payroll will have a central place/center of excellence. Deb talked about issue with workstudy not being paid for 6 weeks.
  7. Ejournal portal 2.0: Sofia just heard about this from an email Tim sent. Brenda will look into this (find out if cost involved), as Sofia can’t think of any reason not to turn this on.
  8. Statista trial: Sofia talked about the Statista trial. Says it’s nice, there are ways to limit search to US, can pull data and place in Powerpoint, etc., have APA citation for data used. From her brief look it seems very business oriented.
  9. Nursing journal: Katie had decided we’d check it in. Then stopped receiving, closed holdings. Started receiving again. Leslie thinks we’re sent this serial for free. Sofia said when she looked at this it had good information. Brenda checked the serials usage for this and it was zero, Leslie said to not bother adding it back.
  10. Libguides: Roger from UMPI discussed refworks with Leslie. Leslie sent him links to other campuses to see how others use it, and suggested he talk with Sofia about this. Might want to make sure they’re ok with paying for our instance. Sofia thinks what they paid for includes so many instances, doesn’t cost them extra. Maybe they can include UMPI in so they don’t have to pay for this? Sofia did reach out to him regarding Summon, haven’t heard back though.
  11. Trial/Demo: Got an email from Orono that they’re doing a trial and if UMFK wanted to be part of it. Based on feedback from Reference demo, we’re not interested in it. Sofia will email Nancy, to find out about sharing feedback. UMF, UMPI, UMM said no. The product and for who they serve didn’t make sense for UMFK.
  12. Staff changes: Offer made for AA for President’s Office, also for Transfer Officer. Admissions search is going well, International recruiter. Marketing search committee passed on information to President. Business search should have position posted soon. IT manager spot posted internally, interview on Thursday. Hiring new position for IT between PI and FK.
